Corpse Tree

Corpse Tree.
There’s a face in the foliage. It swings left, just as you notice a blade materializing from the canopy. You block, barely ducking in time to avoid another swipe. The second blow swishes right. A disembodied arm clutches rusted steel. You freeze, uncomprehending, as a thick vine loops your ankle. Then the tree steps forward.

This is a personal concept piece. The corpse tree attacks from all sides, wheeling blades clutched by ropy vines. It uses a decapitated human head to see, guiding the tree on a perpetual quest to wet its mobile roots in blood. With every kill, its blooded leaves fade back from burgundy senescence to a gray moss green.
